Our beloved mother was born in the small town of Big Valley Alberta in 1925 and moved with her family to Edmonton in 1939. After high school, mom returned to Big Valley for a year to work at the Royal Bank. Following the loss of her brother Don in WW2, mom enlisted in the Womens Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRENS) serving in administrative duties at HMCS training base Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. It was here that she met our dear father, who was serving as a RCN Physical Training Instructor. Married in 1944, they settled after the war in his birthplace of Hamilton, Ont.
In the post war period mom worked as a store clerk and Manager for many years while raising her family. Our mother had an adventurous spirit, learning both to drive and swim in mid-life. In their 70's she and dad were thrilled to take a balloon ride inspiring us to do the same. In retirement she enjoyed living in various locations in Ont., especially the beloved family cottage, as well as winters spent in Mexico and Florida, always making new friends. Our mom will be fondly remembered for her lovely smile, hearty laugh, wonderful family meals, enduring gratitude for the many blessings in her life, and deep love for us all.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Chun and all the staff of Unit A at Huronview for their skilled and compassionate care for our mother throughout her stay.
A private family graveside will be held at Wroxeter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to our mother's favourite charity, The War Amps would be most welcome, with our sincere thanks.
