Obituary of Donald G.  Carter

At Wingham & District Hospital, on Friday, October 17, 2008, Mr. Donald Carter of Wingham, age 59 years. Beloved husband of the former Evonne Ryder. Loving father of Annette Carter and Brian Johnston, Joe Carter and fiancée Rebecca Carson and Lee Anne and Chris Gibbons of Wingham, Steven and his fiancée Kelly Crawford and Melanie and Silvio Marzaro of London. Brother of Janice Carter of Toronto, Terry and Rhoda Carter of Coldale, Alberta, Sandra Penner of Lions Head, Murray and Gail Carter of Olds, Alberta, Carol and Allan Johnstone of Wingham, Kevin and Heather Carter of Listowel and Lisa Carter of Brantford. Brother-in-law of Andy Kroontje of Surrey, B.C. Son-in-law of Irene Ryder of Delhi. Lovingly remembered by grandchildren Kathie and Bryce Johnston, Nick and Josh Carter and Marah Gibbons. Predeceased by his parents George and Shirley (MacDonald) Carter, brother James Carter (1951) and sister Elaine Kroontje (2002). Don and Evonne owned and operated Carter's Waste Disposal for over thirty-five years. Don was a member of Wingham Town Council for over fifteen years serving the last six years as Wingham's last mayor. He was a life member of the Wingham Kinsmen Club, a founding member of the Wingham Business Association, Wingham Snowmobile Club and Bruce Regional Snowmobile Club. He was instrumental in mapping out trails for the original Timmy Runs. The Carters are members of Wingham United Church. Visitation at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, Ontario on Sunday, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Wingham United Church on Monday at 2:00 pm. Interment in Wingham Cemetery, Wingham, Ontario. Memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
