Obituary of Kenneth McKague

Peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024, Kenneth McKague, formerly of Wingham passed away at the age of 93 at AgeCare, Kitchener.

Beloved husband of Audrey (Gilmour) McKague, most recently of Kitchener, but formerly of Wingham. Cherished dad of Kevin & Shauni McKague of Kitchener and Kendra & Derek Axford of St. Thomas. Loving Poppa of Rebecca and Michael McKague and Brienna, David and Joelle Axford. Ken will be remembered by his brother Robert McKague and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Predeceased by his parents John & Jessie (Currie) McKague, grandsons Nathaniel and Andrew Axford, sister Jean Leitch and her husband Ken Leitch, sisters-in-law Helen McKague, Marion Campbell and her husband Donald, Marj Smith and Grace Gilmour and brother-in-law G. Mac Smith.

On July 19th, 1958, Ken united with Audrey in marriage, forging a partnership of 65 years that was as enduring as the soil he tilled. His passion for farming defined his life’s journey. He dedicated decades alongside his father, brother and nephew, cultivating the land they cherished. In 1997, he transitioned from the farm to town, carrying with him the resilience and work ethic ingrained in him.  Setting an example of faith and devotion to duty, Ken served as a Trustee for 41 years and as an Elder for 46 years at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Wingham. In addition to his love for farming and his God and Saviour Jesus, Ken found joy in the simple things, including caring for his beef cattle and, after retirement, time spent playing cards in Bluevale. Whether it was with a spirited game of cards or friendly conversations and sharing meals and stories with friends and family, Ken enjoyed his time with others. In 2022, Ken and Audrey, while still maintaining cherished roots in Wingham, settled in the KW area where they could be closer to family for support.

Visitation will be held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Tuesday, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Wingham Cemetery.

The service will be live-streamed, please click here to view the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (General Fund), or the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation (CT Scanner Campaign) would be appreciated.
