Obituary of Doris Wilson

It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Margaret Wilson (nee Scheerer) announce her passing at the Wingham &District Hospital on Friday, January 13th, 2023. Doris was in her 101st year.

Doris was the loving mother of Beverley Reed of Wingham. Cherished Granny of Kimberley Reed of Sturgeon Falls, Jennifer (Barrie) Pyefinch of Oshawa, Philip (Abbey) Reed of Roanoke, IL and Sarah (Justin) MacTavish of Wingham. Doris was a great-granny to eleven and a great-great-granny to three.

Doris was born on April 29th, 1922, to the late Louis and Marion Scheerer. The youngest of five, Doris was born and raised in New Hamburg, Ontario. After graduating from high school, Doris followed her dreams of exploring the west coast. The love of her life, Stanley Wilson, followed Doris out to British Columbia. In 1945, Doris and Stanley were married in Vancouver. By 1947, they moved back to the Kitchener area, where Doris gave birth to their one and only child, their cherished daughter Beverley. Throughout her life, Doris held several jobs including a clerical position at London Motor Products as well as Eatons. Doris later went on to complete her teaching certificate at an institute in Stratford, Ontario. Doris became a well-respected teacher in the City of Hamilton, teaching primarily shorthand, but also penmanship and secretarial science.

Doris loved spending time on the country roads, zipping around in her silver Toyota, visiting flea markets, rodeos, and festival theatres. Doris was an adventurist, always up for a good time. She enjoyed being surrounded by her family with a glass of wine (or rye and ginger), sharing her stories and opinion! Doris was a strong independent woman, often making up for what she lacked in height with a bold, witty sense of humor.

Doris will forever be remembered for her strong love of her family, especially all her grandkids. In her 101 years, Doris made it to countless milestone events for her family, especially if it involved a party.

Doris was predeceased by her husband Stanley Wilson and was the last of her generation.

A funeral service will be held at McBurney Funeral Home, on Thursday, January 19th, 2023, at 11:00 am, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Kitchener at 3:00 pm. A celebration of life will be held in the spring.
