Obituary of Lorraine Hallahan

At Stratford General Hospital on Monday, July 19, 2021, Lorraine Hallahan of R.R. #3, Blyth, passed away with her family by her side, at the age of 72.

Beloved wife of Jim Hallahan. Loving mom of Laura & Rodney Nicholson (Parkhill), Shannon & Tony Billings (Oshawa), Patrick & Alicha Hallahan (Belgrave), Jamie & Laura Hallahan (Brunner) and Ryan Hallahan (Belgrave). Devoted grandma of Brennan, Cole and Jake Nicholson, Brayden and John Billings and Kailey, Landyn, Colyn, Ayden, Avery and Callum Hallahan. Dear sister of Jim & Linda Schurter (Listowel), Michael & Joan Schurter (Kitchener), Linda Kieffer (Bluevale) and Marian & David Kuntz (Walkerton). Sister-in-law of Betty Ann Eghoetz (Stratford) and Mike & Agnes Hallahan (Greenock). Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. Predeceased by her parents Ralph & Anna (Weiler) Schurter, brothers-in-law Bill Kieffer, Jim McGregor, and Elton Ehgoetz, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Hallahan, and niece Lisa Schurter.

Lorraine was born in Walkerton on December 19th, 1948. She was a dedicated teacher and began teaching at the age of nineteen at Sacred Heart School in Teeswater. Lorraine met and married her husband Jim in 1970 and together they raised five amazing children on their dairy farm in Blyth. She returned to teaching as her children grew older and loved the many generations of students that she taught throughout her career; especially the little ones in kindergarten. In addition to teaching, Lorraine was an avid reader, and enjoyed fishing and time at the cottage affectionately calling it her 'wee slice of Heaven'. She volunteered for many years at the Huron Pioneer Threshers. She most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored; playing cards and board games, having campfires and watching their sporting events. Lorraine will be remembered for her heart of gold, warm smile, cheerful laugher, and her love and commitment to her family.

Visitation will be held at McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Wingham on Saturday, July 24th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Those wishing to attend either visitation or the funeral mass must RSVP through our website. A come and go celebration will be held at the farm following the burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Blyth.
