It was one of the pleasures of my life to play in the Country Starlight band with Doris, Paul Steep and Arnold Bruce. What a time!! Doris and Arnold took on Paul and I like we were their nephews. We played (what seemed like) two nights every weekend, and sometimes a Saturday matinee. Doris was the band leader, and ran it like clockwork. When Paul and I cranked the amps and took things a little too far, Doris had a way of reeling us in, and getting things back on track. Ernie was one of our biggest fans. Arnold was the life of the party, and kept all of us laughing. After every gig, we had a bit of an after party at Doris and Ernie's place. A sandwich, pickles, a visit with the cat "midnight" and a stiff "shot for the road"...or more likely, crash on the couch. Many times, Doris introduced us to her extended family, and her pride in her nephews and nieces was obvious. You had an aunt that was worthy of your love. Fair thee well, Doris, and we'll see you on the other side.
Cheers

I still smile when I think about Country Starlite. Sleep well wonderful lady.

So sorry to hear of Doris’ passing. She was a wonderful caring and giving woman! She played piano for our Seniors Program; it was amazing how she could play and never have any music notes in front of her, just a list of songs to play. I hope there’s a piano in heaven for you Doris.
