Obituary of Douglas Edward Layton

At Wingham & District Hospital on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, Doug Layton of Wingham, age 71 years. Beloved husband of Marilyn (Petteplace) Layton. Loving father of Jeffrey Layton of Wingham and Jennifer and Kevin Chebott of Saltford. Grandfather of Tyler and Jacob Layton and Logan and Paige Chebott. Brother-in-law of Maynard and Joy Hymers, Don and Sandy Petteplace of Clinton and Marjorie MacLennan of Kitchener. Uncle of Brenda MacIsaac, Brad & Darlene Hymers, and Denim and Karen Layton all of Clinton. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Dorothy Layton, sister Barbara Hymers and brother Wayne Layton. Doug was a native of the Clinton area. He was president and co-owner of Layton-McBurney Furniture Limited and McBurney Funeral Home until his retirement in 1998. He was elected to Wingham Town Council in 1994 and served as the first Reeve of the Township of North Huron for six years. He was elected as Warden of Huron County by his peers in 2005. Visitation at McBurney Funeral Home Ltd., Wingham, Ontario on Friday, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at Wingham United Church on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Reverend Richard D. Hall officiating. Interment in Wingham Cemetery, Wingham, Ontario. Memorial donations to Wingham and District Hospital Foundation or the Asthma Society of Canada would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
